Planning permission is being sought for five homes on the Northumberland coast to the south of Amble.
Mr N Thompson has submitted an outline application for five properties, each with their own garden/amenity areas and parking, on land north of Beachside, in Low Hauxley.
The bid is in outline at this stage, so if it were approved, the access, layout, scale, appearance and landscaping would all need to be agreed at a later stage.
A planning statement by agent George F White says: ‘This proposal offers the opportunity for housing to be developed in a location which would enhance the surrounding area of Low Hauxley while also contributing to the vitality of the existing settlement and helping to maintain services and amenities nearby.’
However, it does concede that ‘there will no doubt be concerns from the LPA (local planning authority, ie, the county council) regarding the site’s location’ given that current policies would suggest it is in an area of open countryside.
The statement uses two recent appeal decisions in favour of development in the nearby area to suggest that this site, north of Silvercarrs Caravan Park, should also be considered within the settlement of Low Hauxley and ‘not functionally isolated’.
The first appeal referred to is a decision from May 2015 to allow a one-bedroom extension at 5 Hauxley Links Chalets, after it had been refused the previous December.
The other, in High Hauxley, was a proposal for a caravan park to include 30 touring pitches, approximately five tent pitches, an office/coffee shop and a toilet/shower block at Beacon Hill, which was rejected in October 2017 but overturned by a planning inspector in August last year.
The agent argues that the site and principle of the development ‘can be found
to be acceptable in this case, because it is neither physically or functionally isolated’ and it ‘accords with the overarching objectives of achieving sustainable development’ as well as ‘the local circumstances’.
