Plans lodged and approved in Northumberland village

In their response to the application, for an external balcony and staircase at Bay View, Brady Street, the parish council is to request that screens are installed on either end to prevent overlooking into the neighbour’s properties.

Chairman Coun Geoffrey Stewart also raised the possibility that the permission could be temporary, say for the period of five years, rather than permanent, while the potential for noise issues was also mentioned.

Members had no objections to a bid for a rear sun-lounge extension at 34 Islestone Drive, nor the change of use of 57 Main Street from a tattoo studio to a dog-grooming salon.

However, on the latter, Coun Alan Trotter asked if the bright display lights which are left on overnight shining into the street could be mentioned.

The council also received notification that Alan Hailes’ application to change the former police station into a funeral home and a scheme to expand the restaurant at the rear of 52-54 Main Street into the first floor were approved.
