The Highways Agency is planning the following roadworks on the A1 in Northumberland and other trunk roads in the region over the next week, from tomorrow until Sunday, May 3.
A1 Alnwick: The southbound side of the A1 is currently closed near Alnwick while work takes place to refurbish a bridge. Traffic is running in both directions on the northbound carriageway 24 hours a day. Temporary traffic lights are also in use on the A1068 below the bridge. The project is due to be completed by August.
A1 Morpeth: There will be a lane closure in both directions between 8am and 5pm as part of a project to build a new bypass. The lane closures will remain in place until Thursday.
A1 Haggerston to Scremerston: There will be temporary traffic lights in operation in both directions between 8pm and 6am until Tuesday while surveys take place.
A1 Warreners House to Clifton: There will be a lane closure in both directions between 8pm and 6am for improvement work from tomorrow to Thursday.
A1 Clifton to Shotton: There will be a lane closure in both directions between 8pm and 6am for improvement work from Friday until Sunday.
Elsewhere in the North East
A1M junction 62 Durham to junction 63 Chester-le-Street: Lane two is currently closed with traffic using the hard shoulder and lane one instead while work takes place to upgrade the barrier in the central reservation. The scheme is due to be finished by the end of May.
A1 Lamesley to Swalwell: Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work takes place to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There are also night-time lane closures in place north and southbound between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016. The road will be closed overnight in both directions at Lobley Hill, between 8pm and 6am, tomorrow and Friday. Diversions will be in place.
A19 Killingworth to Holystone, North Tyneside: The southbound side of the road will be closed between 8pm and 6am for resurfacing work until mid-May. Drivers will be able to follow a clearly signed diversion route.
A19 Silverlink to Holystone, North Tyneside: There will be a lane closure in both directions between 9.30am and 3.30pm for structural work, which is due to be completed by tomorrow.
A19 Seaton Burn to Wallsend, North Tyneside: There will be a lane closure on the northbound side of the road between 8pm and 6am for inspections from tomorrow to Wednesday.
A696 Prestwick to Kenton Bar, Newcastle: The westbound side of the road will be closed between 8pm and 6am for resurfacing work, with a diversion in place. The project is due to be completed by Wednesday, May 6.
A66 Thorpe Grange to Hutton Magna, County Durham: There will be a lane closure on the eastbound side of the road between 8pm and 6am for investigative work, taking place between tomorrow and Wednesday.
