The Highways Agency is planning the following roadworks on the A1 in Northumberland over the next week, from Monday, to Sunday, April 26.
Alnwick, Northumberland: Alnwick South Bridge Refurbishment Phase 2. The southbound side of the A1 is currently closed near Alnwick while work takes place to refurbish a bridge. Traffic is running in both directions on the northbound carriageway 24 hours a day. Temporary traffic lights are also in use on the A1068 below the bridge. The project is due to be completed by August.
Morpeth, Northumberland: There will be a lane closure north and southbound between 8am and 5pm as part of a project to build a new bypass. The lane closures will remain in place until the end of April.
Haggerston to Scremerston, Northumberland: There will be temporary traffic lights in operation north and southbound between 8pm and 6am until the end of April while surveys take place.
Seaton Burn, Northumberland: Work to improve the junction with the A19 will be ongoing during April. Phases of night time lane closures and some carriageway closures will take place between 8pm and 6am. A 50mph speed restriction is currently in place.
Details are correct as of Friday, April 17, but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. The Highways Agency says: “All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.”
