Northumberland motorists heading south on the A1 are being advised to expect ‘possible delays’ as some drivers are planning on holding a demonstration along the A1.
It comes days after a 24-year-old man was killed on the A1 near the Angel of the North.
UPDATE: The convoy of motorists driving at slow-speed on the A1 have now reached their destination and traffic is flowing as normal.
Northumbria Police said: “Officers are working with the organisers to establish what their plans are, however, it’s thought this will involve driving along the A1 between the Western by Pass and Chester-le-Street at a slow speed.
“The force’s priority is to ensure the safety of all road users and the local communities that are affected and extra officers will be along the A1 to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.
“Motorists are advised there may be slight delays on the road and are thanked for their patience.”
