Plan set to go before the people in June

The referendum on the neighbourhood plan for Alnwick and Denwick is now pencilled in for Thursday, June 15.

The draft plan is now into the very final stages, but the county, town and parish council elections in May have meant that June 15 is the earliest practical date.

Town councillors have also agreed on the priorities in the Community Action Plan, developed alongside the neighbourhood plan, to be focused on during 2017/18 by Alnwick’s project and funding officer.

The seven priorities for the first year include issues such as a strategy for the use of the Market Place, access to visitor information and facilities, green measures as part of new developments, bus and coach facilities, dog fouling, littering and allotments.

These relate to proposals for which Alnwick Town Council is the lead body.

Meanwhile, complaints have been made about advertising hoardings on two buildings in Alnwick.

At last week’s meeting of the town council, Coun Gordon Castle questioned why nothing had been done about the boards on the front of the McCarthy and Stone building on Bondgate Without, despite conversations some time ago.

However, Coun Martin Harrington reported that there had been movement on those units and that they will be occupied in the next four or five weeks.

Coun Peter Broom raised similar concerns about the Gentoo building on Lagny Street.
