An application to build up to 45 homes in a seaside village, including a number of affordable properties, has been submitted by Northumberland Estates.
The outline plan, with all matters reserved, is earmarked for land to the south of Kennedy Green, in Beadnell.
The site, which is in the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is approximately 2.4 hectares in size and is currently used for the grazing of livestock.
While it is proposed that eight of the properties would be affordable, the specific allocation of affordable houses is subject to further discussion with Northumberland County Council in consideration of current affordable housing need in Beadnell and the surrounding area.
The types of houses proposed, which is indicative only, are 12 four-bedroom properties, 23 three-bedroom homes – two of which would be affordable – and six two-bedroom houses, including six affordable.
The proposal also seeks to develop associated access road, drainage, public open space, gardens and landscaping, and other ancillary work. Vehicular access to the site would be from Swinhoe Road.
The Estates says the development would offer a number of economic benefits, such as the creation of jobs throughout the construction process and will help to maintain the local services and facilities of Beadnell and the surrounding area. It adds that a mixture of homes are suggested to be available for affordable rent or purchase at discount market value, as well as private market dwellings for permanent occupancy only, which ‘will help to address an acute social issue in the village due to the over dominance of holiday and second homes’.
