The two-storey building would be sited on the overspill car park on the public car park site adjacent to Beadnell Bay.

The proposal incorporates public toilets and changing and shower facilities in support of coastal activities.

As part of the plan, the existing car park would be redesigned.

A statement submitted with the application says: ‘This seeks to deliver a building which positively impacts upon the local area, with up to date facilities and modern accommodation to meet the demand of tourism.’

The first floor will house the café, kitchen and storage space with an external seating area.

The ground floor will house the coastal activities base with external space for events and training on a raised platform, and the public toilets and shower/changing facilities inside.

The newly-designed car park would have 93 spaces within the visitor car park, 10 DDA spaces, two motorbike spaces and 16 overspill spaces.

The statement adds: ‘The proposal provides the opportunity to address the refurbishment requirement of the existing public toilet facilities located to the east of the site by integrating these facilities into the new building. Options are being appraised for the future use of the existing toilet block.

‘The new building will also help to fulfil additional demand on facilities and support the new development of holiday homes opposite the site.

‘There is now, more than ever, a requirement for additional facilities within Beadnell to contribute to the local infrastructure and enhance the area as a watersports and tourist destination.’
