Westfield Park, Longhoughton.

Coun Eleanor Phillips told Longhoughton’s annual parish meeting on Monday that the document is being drawn up for the village’s community and sports centre at Westfield Park.

And she also made an appeal for more volunteers and trustees to help out.

She said: “The trustees are committed to developing the centre and the range of activities that take place. The centre is well used, but we believe it can be a hive of activity.”

The proposed development plan will put forward a range of activities for consideration.

This includes consolidating the football, but also considering some available land for other activities, possibly tennis or bowling; extending the children’s play area to give it a fresh look and attract families; and promote a range of activities, such as coffee mornings and band nights, among other things.

She added: “The trustees are the body responsible but they are ably supported by many volunteers who carry out a range of tasks. We are very grateful to all trustees and volunteers ,but we know that we will have to recruit many more if we are to develop the centre as described.”

Royal community fun day planned

A Royal community fun day is being staged at Westfield Park on Thursday, June 2.

The event, from 2pm to 5pm, will feature games, refreshments, woodcrafts, penalty shootout, cricket, races and face-painting, among other things.

There will also be a decorate your bike or scooter competition, with prizes up for grabs.

It is being held to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations.
