Coun Eleanor Phillips told Longhoughton’s annual parish meeting on Monday that the document is being drawn up for the village’s community and sports centre at Westfield Park.

And she also made an appeal for more volunteers and trustees to help out.

She said: “The trustees are committed to developing the centre and the range of activities that take place. The centre is well used, but we believe it can be a hive of activity.”

The proposed development plan will put forward a range of activities for consideration.

This includes consolidating the football, but also considering some available land for other activities, possibly tennis or bowling; extending the children’s play area to give it a fresh look and attract families; and promote a range of activities, such as coffee mornings and band nights, among other things.

She added: “The trustees are the body responsible but they are ably supported by many volunteers who carry out a range of tasks. We are very grateful to all trustees and volunteers ,but we know that we will have to recruit many more if we are to develop the centre as described.”
