Pirates will steal the show

Treasure Island – The Panto!, Alnwick Playhouse, Saturday, January 21. 2pm and 7.30pm and Tuesday, January 24 to Saturday, January 28, 7.30pm. Tickets: £8, £7 conc, £6 children/students.

AMATEUR actors and actresses from Alnwick’s long-established theatre club bring their seasonal pantomime to the Playhouse for some rip-roaring fun.

Losely based on the original by Robert Louis Stevenson, and writted by Alan P Frayn, Don Beattie is directing the show, which is set to be a hit with all the family.

On the journey to find Captain Flint’s treasure map, a host of characters are met including Long John Silver, the landlady of the Smugglers’ Inn, Rosie, and her son Jim, his girlfriend Penny and her father, Squire Pendragon.

They set sail for far-off lands, sharing adventure, pleasure, tales of piracy, romance, treasure and more, with laughs aplenty, slapstick humour and plenty of fun to keep the audience entertained.

l The club is appealing for a potter’s wheel to help with the production.

The foot-operated piece of equipment is being sought for use in a scene of Treasure Island, which is taking to the stage at Alnwick Playhouse at the end of the month.

If anyone can help with the appeal, contact Don Beattie on 07980 357982.

The item would need to be available from Sunday, January 15, at the latest.
