Wooler Food Bank receives generous donation from Northumberland Freemasons

Northumberland Freemason Andy Grant’s good deed of feeding children for free in October’s school holidays has led to a donation to Wooler Food Bank.

Andy, from South Charlton, runs his own catering business, Piper’s Pitch in Craster, and decided to give free meals away to help those in need during the pandemic.

Parents were asked to donate a small amount if they could afford it to go to a local good cause.

He also asked his fellow freemasons from the Heart of Glendale Lodge, who meet in Berwick, to rally around to help him.

The result was a cheque for £500, handed over to Patrick Sheard, chairman of the Glendale Gateway Trust, which is overseeing the Wooler Food Bank.

Andy said: “The support we’ve received from the Lodge and the public has been great and it’s fantastic that the money will go towards helping people in the very area where our lodge was founded more than a century ago.”
