Youngsters at Cramlington Village Primary School were able to enjoy a wintry wonderland featuring synthetic ice rink and Santa’s grotto.

Actors of Dodgy Clutch Theatre Company – who normally perform at Kielder’s Winter Wonderland each winter – were also on hand with their show.

The two-day Yuletide experience – which also included forest school craft-making, hot chocolate stations, turkey and cranberry subs and sausages in buns – is being funded by the school, plus generous voluntary donations from parents and local businesses, including Sterling Pharmaceuticals which contributed £1,000.

Parent Lindsey Russell said: “For a school to be spreading a little bit of Christmas magic for the children in this way is just wonderful.

“The wintry wonderland was a chance for the children to have a little bit of normality in their lives and an opportunity to enjoy some Christmas spirit in what has been a very strange year for them.”

Fellow parent Heather Armstrong added: “This year has been an extremely challenging one and every Christmas event we had planned to attend as a family has been cancelled.

"CVPS have gone above and beyond to make things special and as normal as possible for the children throughout this term.

"The icing on the cake was them bringing Wintry Wonderland to school.”

Debbie Wylie, school principal, said: “We were so excited that our children were skating round the ice rink, enjoying an amazing Santa experience and taking part in some musical theatre led by the Dodgyclutch Theatre Company.

“As a school we have Covid-secure control measures in place that make it safe for the children’s bubbles to be outside together, enjoying some festive fun that they may not currently be able to enjoy as they usually would.”

Lynda Harrison, marketing manager at Sterling Pharmaceuticals, said: “We’re delighted to be associated with our local school who are doing wonderful things at this time of year.”
