The WASPI women – or Women Against State Pension Inequality – are gearing up to make their voices heard in Parliament Square, London, during the Chancellor’s Budget on Wednesday, October 30.
The demonstration is set to take place from noon to 3pm.
Campaigners say successive governments failed to inform them properly of increases to their state pension age and are calling for fair and fast compensation as a result.

After a lengthy investigation, the Parliamentary Ombudsman concluded in March 2024 that ministers got things wrong and should pay compensation to more than 3.6million affected women.
After months of delay under both Conservative and Labour administrations, ministers have not yet responded to the report despite support from a number of MPs across the Commons.
Local Women Against State Pension (WASPI) campaign group co-ordinator Jane Cowley said: “Thousands of women in North Northumberland had their retirement plans thrown into chaos after successive governments failed to properly inform them of increases to their state pension age.
“The Parliamentary Ombudsman delivered clear recommendations more than six months ago, calling on ministers to fairly compensate those affected as soon as possible.

“Northumberland WASPI women have made their presence felt in past demonstrations, with the distinctive red and yellow Northumberland flag flying high along with the purple WASPI banners, and I’m sure we’ll do so again.”
Campaigners have previously said that the lack of notice caused real problems, not allowing women time to plan for their later retirement and pushing many into financial hardship. In addition, they said the worst affected individuals received just 18 months’ notice of a six-year delay to their state pension.
There are more than 6,000 affected women living in the North Northumberland constituency. Those wishing to find out further information can email [email protected]
