Vapour trails converge on beautiful blue Northumberland sky

St George’s Day may be on the horizon but the vapour trails appearing in the blue skies above Northumberland seem more akin to the Scottish Saltire.

They were spotted on Wednesday afternoon and two of our readers sent pictures in.

Roger Horne, from Longframlington, said: “I couldn’t believe that three successive vapour trails all appeared at one position in the almost cloudless sky. I’ve never before seen anything like it.”

They form when water vapour produced by the combustion of airplane fuel condenses upon particles in the exhaust.
