Spectacular display as beacon lit at Cawfield Quarry on Hadrian's Wall to mark Queen's Platinum Jubilee

A spectacular beacon lighting ceremony featuring Roman re-enactors was held at Cawfield Quarry on a section of Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland.

It was one of over 2,000 beacons lit across the UK and the Commonwealth, including the Tower of London, Windsor Great Park, Edinburgh Castle, Sandringham and Balmoral.

The Queen led the way with the lighting of the principal Platinum Jubilee beacon at Windsor Castle on Thursday evening in a spectacular end to the first day of celebrations marking her 70 years on the throne.
