Sign the Northumberland Gazette's online book of condolence in tribute to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

We know that many of you would like to pay tribute to Prince Philip, but Covid restrictions in England mean that physical books of condolence are not permitted.

Instead we have launched an online book of condolence for your messages, which we will collect and print in the Gazette on Thursday, April 22 in conjunction with our sister title nationalworld.com.

The Duke’s final farewell, taking place on Saturday, April 17 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, will be unlike any other royal funeral.

The coronavirus pandemic - and Philip’s personal wishes - mean that this will be a more intimate funeral than ever before for a member of the Royal Family.

Adhering to England’s Covid-19 restrictions, only 30 mourners will be allowed inside St George's Chapel, limiting the event to the closest members of his family.

And while the funeral itself will be covered by broadcasters from around the world, there will be none of the usual ritual of a state funeral.

Prince Philip, the longest-serving British consort in history, instead chose to have a ceremonial funeral.

So it seems fitting to give our readers a chance to be part of the proceedings by signing our book of condolence.
