Rescued seal swims out to sea at Blyth after being returned to the wild

A seal was returned to the wild at Blyth beach with the help of the town’s coastguard team.

Blyth Coastguard was called to assist the British Divers Marine Life Rescue on Wednesday, June 17 as they returned a seal to the wild.

The team helped with a safety cordon while the charity worked to release the seal into the water.

A statement on the Blyth Coastguard Facebook page, posted on Wednesday at around 10pm, said: “The team were paged this evening by Humber CGOC to help provide a safety cordon whilst British Divers Marine Life Rescue returned a seal to the wild.

“Once the seal had been released and observed whilst it swam out to sea, the team were stood down and returned to station.

People are encouraged to respect the wildlife and not approach any seals who are out of the water resting.”
