But in the early hours of Christmas morning, they woke their daughter Milena, aged six, with the news that her little sister was on her way.

Stacey, a probate lawyer at Hardington Hogg Solicitors, in Alnwick, said: “Dave went in to wake her in the night because we had to get her in the car.

"We told her Santa had been and she wasn’t that bothered but when we said Rosa was on her way she was straight up and was by the door in no time with her little suitcase ready to go.

"We Facetimed her from the hospital and she saw her as soon as we got home.

"She held her and told us she’d been practising with her dollies. We’re all over the moon.”

Thankfully everything went smoothly and the proud mum was discharged with Rosa by 2.30pm meaning the big sister could meet her for the first time on Christmas Day.

Originally planning on the names Rosa Charlotte the adoring parents added May as a middle name in memory of Stacey’s grandmother, Margaret May Turnbull, who sadly died after contracting Covid-19 in November.

"Rosa is something good to come out of this year,” said Stacey.

The 29-year-old mum added: "When we were told Rosa’s due date was Christmas Day everyone told us she wouldn’t arrive then because so few children are actually born on their due date."

"But as we got closer to Christmas I thought it could actually happen.

"I was going to be induced on New Year’s Day if she hadn’t arrived so she was adamant on having a special birthday one way or the other.

"We’ve not really thought how we’ll celebrate her birthdays in the future, whether we’ll celebrate it the day before or do something in the summer for her too.”
