Pandemic efforts of Wooler Food Bank rewarded with £2,000 grant

The funding from Northumberland Communities Together and Northumberland Food Partnership acknowledges the efforts of the Trust in issuing several hundred food parcels to families and individuals across Glendale.

Gemma Douglas, project officer at Glendale Gateway Trust said: “We have been astounded by the response in support of the food bank. We have witnessed a generosity and kindness across Glendale which knows no bounds. The community has really come together to support one another during what has been an exceptionally difficult year for some people.

“The food bank is very well stocked by regular donations, and we would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has given donations at Lowick Village Store, and the Co-op in Wooler which both serve as collection points for items purchased within store, and also to all those who have, and continue to donate via the cabinet outside the Cheviot Centre.

“We are humbled to see our work recognised - and will ensure the donation is reinvested in the community of Glendale.”

Paul Brooks, head of Northumberland Communities Together said: “Over the past 12 months Northumberland Communities Together has been indebted to the excellent work that organisations such as the Wooler and Glendale food bank has been doing in responding to the needs of residents in our communities.

"During the Covid-19 pandemic as part of our fabulous voluntary community sector response you have helped to ensure that over 20,000 clinically extremely vulnerable people and those required to shield have received the necessary support and welfare assistance to keep them safe and well.

"In addition, you have helped support tens of thousands of households who required further support and assistance to address food insecurities and household hardships during these times’
