Charlie George Ibbetson has started a 26-week sentence behind bars after a court decided his offence was “so serious” because of the “nature of the injuries caused”.
Ibbetson, 29, of Park Road, Ashington, admitted assaulting occasioning actual bodily harm in nearby Lynemouth on March 14 after initially pleading not guilty to the charge.

Hide AdHe also pleaded guilty to one count of breaching a 2018 restraining order by contacting the woman between February 1, 2019, and June 9 this year.
North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court ordered him to pay his victim £200 and imposed a two-year restraining order banning him from contacting her directly or indirectly “by any means whatsoever”.
The order also prevents him from entering two named addresses in Ashington and Newbiggin-by-the-Sea over the same period.
Two other charges of assaulting the same woman and a second alleged breach of the 2018 restraining order were dismissed by the court.
