The couple, from Derbyshire, were married at Alnwick Register Office before heading for a celebratory drink at The Dirty Bottles on Narrowgate.

It was also Linda’s 60th birthday so there was a double reason to raise a glass.

She said: “To have my 60th birthday on the day when the pubs reopen indoors is just perfect.

"We were meant to be on a ship but it didn’t sail so we thought about what we would do instead and decided the best thing would be to visit Northumberland.”

They have never been before but were encouraged to do so by friends Tony and Marion Burchby who acted as witnesses at the marriage ceremony.

"We holiday up here quite a bit and love it and we wanted them to see it too,” said Marion.

They are staying in Alnmouth.
