Morpeth mindset coach shortlisted for national awards after mental health struggles

A Northumberland mindset coach is in the running for two awards after overcoming mental health challenges.

Nine years ago, Morpeth woman Hazel Smith felt so stuck and overwhelmed that she no longer wanted to be here.

Struggling with the effects of childhood trauma and a stressful corporate job, Hazel felt as though she had nowhere to turn until she discovered mindset coaching.

“I just felt like I was really stuck and a bit at a crossroads,” she explained.

“I really didn't want to be here any more because everything's going wrong, I felt like everybody that I got close to abandoned me, and my limiting beliefs were strong.”

After taking a mindset coaching course, Hazel began to understand the root of her issues and colleagues quickly noticed a positive change in her outlook and behaviour.

“I'd been through quite a bit of childhood trauma with various relationship breakdowns that I didn't really understand,” Hazel added.

“So many people just don't realise things that have happened years ago influence how you show up in your behaviours as an adult.

“I realised that there was a real need for what I'd learnt, that I had so many limiting beliefs from what I'd experienced growing up that had influenced how I was showing up in my career.”

Hazel decided she wanted to use her new knowledge to give back and help others going through what she did.

That’s when she launched Clearmind with Hazel – her very own life and mindset coaching business

“If I can get out of the emotional pain and being stuck to not only achieving goals, but reaching for dreams that I never even thought were possible, then that's what I want to spread to other people,” she said.

In just a year, Clearmind with Hazel has been nominated for the UK’s first Weird AF Awards which celebrate unconventional businesses.

Hazel is now one of just three finalists in both the Main Character and Plot Twist categories, with winners announced in Coventry on Wednesday, November 4.

“It's an honour to be selected by the judges to bring awareness of how important mindset work is.

“I just want to spread the message that you're not on your own and there's lots of different avenues that can provide help. Nobody should suffer in silence.”
