The Gazette launched a search to find Northumberland’s cutest and funniest pets back in April and it was 10-year-old Flossie who won readers’ hearts.

Owner Fiona Elcoat, who lives in Rock village, adopted Flossie during the first lockdown. They have just celebrated their first year of companionship.

The pair are best friends, with Flossie even scoring her own jingle on Fiona’s fortnightly Lionheart Radio show.

Fiona, 55, said: “She had all of the qualities I was looking for. She plonked herself on my lap and that was that.

"She’s my best pal and she makes me smile. If I have had a down day, she’ll come and comfort me.”

Flossie is loyal, funny and has helped Fiona’s grown-up son Alex, who has autism, with his fear of dogs.

She was adopted from Alexa’s Animals Dog Rescue.
