Man sustains serious injuries in suspected assault in Ashington

Northumbria Police have launched an investigation after a man sustained serious injuries in the incident on Hawthorn Road at around 7.45am on Tuesday, May 25.

The 45-year-old was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries believed to have happened after an assault.

Detective Constable Paul Kelly said: “This assault is believed to have taken place in the middle of the street.

“We do believe the injuries sustained by the victim are the result of a serious assault and we need to establish exactly what has happened.

“In particular we want to identify a male who was wearing a t-shirt and shorts and riding a bicycle in the area at that time.

“If you saw this man, or anything unusual in the area in the early hours of Tuesday morning, then please don’t hesitate to contact us.”
