Customers queued outside ready for the 8am opening and to be among the first to look around the new store in Hawkeys Lane – the third to open in and around North Shields.

To celebrate the grand opening, Aldi North Shields arranged for Olympic Gold Medallist Katherine Copeland to deliver a virtual assembly for pupils at Spring Gardens Primary School, as part of the supermarket’s initiative, Get Set to Eat Fresh.

"It was great to talk to them about the importance of eating healthily and how it can be fun to plan and prepare meals as a family.

"Hopefully I’ve also managed to inspire the pupils to keep active and try different sports.”
