Northumberland County Council are working with FACTCO, an independent broadband provider, to support the connection of up to 400 properties to a fully funded full-fibre network as part of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport’s (DCMS) latest UK Gigabit Voucher scheme.

The upgrade to a full-fibre network will provide the community with a gigabit capable network, which will provide up to 1000 Mbps upload and download speeds.

Coun Alex Wallace, ward councillor for Sleekburn including Cambois, said: “It is fantastic news that residents and businesses in Cambois will soon be connected to full-fibre broadband.

"This upgrade in connectivity will provide our community with faster internet speeds, something I know has been an issue in the area for a while now.”

In addition, FACTCO are providing a free broadband connection to Cambois Primary School and have sponsored Bedlington FC seniors as well as The Institute, a local community arts organisation in the heart of Cambois.

Lee Murphy, Manging Director at FACTCO, said: “We’re now ready to connect the community of Cambois.

"This is a project that we’re looking forward to completing as we understand the demand for improved connectivity in the area.

"We’ve been working closely with the community by supporting local arts organisations, local football clubs and public services.

"It is important that these services and organisations access better connectivity to give them the opportunity to thrive.”

Coun Richard Wearmouth, deputy leader of Northumberland County Council, added: “Just seven per cent of Northumberland currently has access to full-fibre broadband network, and the Council are working with various broadband providers to ensure communities make the most of the opportunity to get connected with the UK Gigabit Voucher scheme.”
