Eye-catching artwork featuring Northumberland landmarks and wildlife unveiled at Alnmouth railway station

The Friends of Alnmouth Railway Station have unveiled two new pieces of artwork that feature local landmarks and wildlife.

They were created by local painter Paul Henery as part of a project with pupils at nearby Hipsburn Primary School.

Paul explained that the paintings depicted birds and animals seen in Northumberland, and iconic local landmarks too.

Although his work with the school has been halted because of the pandemic, both he and the Friends hope it will resume and produce more artwork in 2021,

Elizabeth Jones from the Friends invited local photographer Jane Coltman along to 'unveil' the paintings as acknowledgement of her media work and as a thank you for her images over the last year which 'cheered everyone up'.

The Friends have, for the first time, decorated a series of mini monkey puzzles trees in the planters at the station and, in return, station manager Andy Harmieson showed Elizabeth a Christmas tree that has been planted and decorated by the station staff.
