The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is seeking additional members for the all-weather and inshore lifeboats.

There is also an opportunity for people to join the team as shore crew and assist in launching the lifeboats.

Potential new recruits don’t need to have sea-going experience to get involved. Team players with enthusiasm and the ability to learn new skills would be ideally suited.

As these roles are operational, volunteers would need to live or work within four miles of the lifeboat station.

Ben Mitchell, RNLI area lifesaving manager, explained: “Only 10 percent of our new recruits come with professional maritime experience, our current lifeboat crew is testament to this as we have a solicitor, a doctor, a fisherman, two retired teachers and several shop and bank staff/managers. The RNLI provides comprehensive training to turn ordinary people into lifesavers.”
