Raw chicken fillets have been left out for wildlife in a Northumberland village.

Concerns about food being left out around Bamburgh’s village green and war memorial were reported to the parish council.

Cllr Barbara Brook, chairman, said: “Alison Brett has reported to us that there has been quite a lot of food left out in and around the green and near the war memorial, including raw chicken fillets.

“She was quite concerned about dogs picking it up and becoming ill and wondered whether there was anything we could suggest to do about it?

"Maybe we could perhaps put a notice up saying that it’s been brought to our attention that food is being left out which is going to encourage vermin?”

Carrot peelings are also among the foodstuffs being left out.

Cllr Andy Bardgett, vice chairman, added: “I feel quite strongly about it. Wild animals don’t need feeding. It’s ridiculous to start putting food out for wild animals. I am quite annoyed about it to say the least. We need to discourage that sort of activity.

"It’s being left out in plastic containers too.

"If anyone knows who is doing it the parish council could drop them a line, although I know it seems a bit big brother.”

Cllr Brook said: “I think people living near the green have a very good idea… but we have got to have proof. We will start with the notices.”

It was agreed to place notices on the village noticeboard, google group, Facebook page and website.
