Another Green Flag Award for the Old Bakehouse Millennium Green in Morpeth
A green space known as Morpeth’s ‘secret garden’ has received the Green Flag (Community) Award for the 24th consecutive year.
The Old Bakehouse Millennium Green is a quiet haven behind the noise of Newgate Street used by a number of residents and visitors, as well as local workers at lunchtime.
It features a variety of wildlife habitats including a wildflower area, a hazel coppice and a bug hotel.
There are also mosaics in the garden and a poetry book for those wishing to jot down their thoughts.

The Green Flag Award recognises the hard work and dedication of the trustees and Friends of the Green in creating a high-quality green space, which is judged on criteria ranging from the planting, appearance, safety and welcoming nature of the site.
The next event in this space will be Music in the Green on Saturday, July 25 from 2pm when the Sing Morpeth Choir, Kim Bibby-Wilson and the Storytellers Street Band will perform. All are welcome.
