Alnwick restaurant dishes up free meals for key workers as a 'thanks to those who deserve it most'
An Alnwick restaurant has been doing its bit for key workers by dishing out free meals.
SherKhan, on Market Place, made the gesture as a way of thanking all those who have been helping out during the coronavirus pandemic.
Owner Mohammed Quiyum said: “We’ve been open throughout the crisis for deliveries to help the local community.
“Then, for the past five or six weeks, we decided to say a little thanks to those who deserve it most by giving free meals out.”
Free meals have been delivered to staff in Alnwick Infirmary, local care homes and the town’s ambulance and police stations.
Mohammed, who opened the Indian restaurant just over a year ago, said: “It’s not the year we’d been hoping for and this situation has hit us but we felt it was important to give recognition for the key workers who are helping everyone.”
