SherKhan, on Market Place, made the gesture as a way of thanking all those who have been helping out during the coronavirus pandemic.

Owner Mohammed Quiyum said: “We’ve been open throughout the crisis for deliveries to help the local community.

“Then, for the past five or six weeks, we decided to say a little thanks to those who deserve it most by giving free meals out.”

Mohammed, who opened the Indian restaurant just over a year ago, said: “It’s not the year we’d been hoping for and this situation has hit us but we felt it was important to give recognition for the key workers who are helping everyone.”
