An event was held in Alnwick market place last month to test the water and, as a result, the Northumbria County Royal British Legion believes there is sufficient interest to form a new branch.

A formation meeting will be held in Alnwick Working Men’s Club on Thursday, December 19 at 7pm.

The intention is to then form a branch with a committee to become The Royal British Legion Alnwick Branch.

If you are interesting in being involved, please come along to this meeting, introduce yourself, offer your skills whatever they may be and become part of a bigger family.

They are particularly keen to hear from people who would be happy to talk to someone, offering a voice of friendship to help prevent them becoming socially isolated

The Royal British Legion was formed in 1921 to support ex-service personnel from the First World War. Today it continues to support serving and ex-serving personnel from Her Majesties Armed Forces. It is not necessary to have served to get involved.

Northumbria County Royal British Legion is interested in opening new branches around the region. It covers an area from Berwick in the north, to Darlington in the south and to the border with Cumbria.

Last year the organisation raised £51million to help those serving, or veterans, in their time of need.
