A hair-raising way to help charities

Rose Murphy had 15 inches taken off at The Brown Bear in Hide Hill and donated it to the Little Princess Trust which provides real-hair wigs free of charge to children in the UK and Ireland who lose their hair during cancer treatment.

The cut was carried out by local hairdresser Nicole Collin and family and friends went along to support the youngster.

Funds are also being raised for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation and almost £900, when including Gift Aid, has been collected so far – a mixture of online and cash donations.

Doddie Weir, one of rugby union’s most recognisable personalities, revealed he had Motor Neurone Disease in 2017 and in November of that year, he launched My Name'5 Doddie, a charity which raises funds for research and awards grants to MND sufferers.

Rose’s mother Debbi Barnes said: “She was really good when getting it done and she loves her new hairdo.

“This was a good opportunity to raise some money for a charity, as well as giving the hair to Little Princess Trust. My Name'5 Doddie was chosen as Doddy is an inspiration fighting for a cure while he fights this awful disease.

"We’re over the moon to have raised so much and thanks to everyone who has donated so far. We’d also like to thank Martin (Thompson) for allowing us to have the haircut at The Brown Bear.”
