Its headquarters next to Morrisons in Morpeth has turned into a sorting centre and all of the beavers, cubs and scouts involved are responsible for delivering to a particular area or few streets.

The post boxes for this year’s initiative are now in place at the Morpeth branches of Morrisons and Barclays, the Co-ops in Loansdean and Pegswood, the Sainsbury’s Local in Stobhill and the Health Hut pharmacy in Kirkhill.

The cards to friends and relatives will then be stamped, sorted and delivered to any address in Morpeth and Pegswood areas.

The last mail will be delivered on Friday, December 20, collection at noon.

A 4th Morpeth Scout Group spokesman said: “We ask that there is a minimum donation of 30p per card and every penny raised goes to the 4th Morpeth.

“We have to raise money all year round so that the children can have the best possible experiences – going to camps, learning, and promoting independent skills.

“The current Scout HQ is too small and hopefully any funds will also help with building costs for a new extension.

“The children are also looking to buy plates and cutlery for camp, which sounds small but will cost in the region of £1,000.

“They are also bag-packing all day on Sunday, December 22 in Morpeth Morrisons. It would be great if you could say hello and let them pack your festive shop.”
