17 North East locations featured in the latest series of ITV's Vera

The latest series of Vera, ITV’s much-loved crime drama, will bring landscapes and landmarks from across the North East into living rooms around the country.

Series 10 will see Brenda Blethyn to take up the role of Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope once more.

She will be joined by Kenny Doughty as Detective Sergeant Aiden Healy, Jon Morris as Detective Constable Jon Morrison, Ibinabo Jack as Detective Constable Jacqueline Williams and Riley Jones as Detective Constable Mark Edwards, while Paul Kaye returns as pathologist Dr Malcolm Donahue.

The first of four feature-length episodes will air from 8pm to 10pm on Sunday, January 12.

The stories, made by Silverprint Pictures, which is part of the ITV Studios, are inspired by the best-selling novels and characters created by crime writer Ann Cleeves.

Tranwell Woods, near Morpeth Tranwell Woods appears in episode 1 when Vera (Brenda Blethyn) has to unravel the circumstances of self-styled entrepreneur Freddie Gill’s death when his body is found by bailiffs attempting to repossess his house.
The University Hospital of Hartlepool features in episode 2.

City Tea Rooms, St Thomas Street, Sunderland features in episode 3. Planet House in Sunderland also features in this episode.
Longhoughton beach features in episode 2 when the body of 19 year-old apprentice electrician Dennis Bayliss is discovered, washed up on the shore of a North Northumberland rural estate. Filming also took place at Orchard House, Alnwick.
Whitley Bay can be seen in episode 2 along with various locations in North Shields.
