Pensioner suffers serious injuries in Northumberland collision

At around 5.22pm on Friday, February 5, police received a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on the northbound carriageway of the A189 near the North Seaton roundabout at Ashington.
Emergency services attended the scene and it is understood that a 71-year-old male pedestrian had been crossing the road when he was hit by a blue Ford Fiesta.

Hide AdThe man was taken to hospital with what were initially described by paramedics as minor injuries. However, his injuries have since been deemed to be serious – through not life-threatening – and he remains in hospital for treatment at this time.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and has been assisting officers with the investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
Enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and police are now appealing for anyone with information that may be of assistance to come forward.
Officers particularly want to speak to anyone who was travelling near to the scene of the collision on Friday evening who may have seen a blue Ford Fiesta travelling in the area.

Hide AdThey have also asked drivers to check any dashcam footage they may have from the area on Friday as they look to build a clearer picture of what caused the collision.
