Pensioner killed in A1 crash named

A pensioner who was killed in a two-vehicle collision on the A1 in Northumberland yesterday has been named by police.

Joan Hine, 82, and from the Denwick area, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a passenger in a Nissan Micra car, which was invovled in a collision with a Mitsubishi Outlander, just before 12.15pm at the Newton on the Moor junction with the C106.

Meanwhile, the 84-year-old driver of the Micra was taken to the Newcastle Freeman Hospital with serious injuries and she remains in a critical condition today.

No one else was seriously injured and inquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were in attendance.

Part of the road was closed in both directions but reopened yesterday afternoon.

Police are appealing for information and anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact motor patrols on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 605 150215.
