Police have named the pedestrian killed after being hit by a car in the west of Northumberland on Sunday night.

At 11.05pm on Sunday, a Ford Ka collided with a pedestrian who was walking along a country road between Matfen and Ryal.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene and the pedestrian was treated at the scene before being taken by the police helicopter to the RVI hospital in Newcastle. He later died as result of his injuries.

This morning, police identified him as Colin Gordon Tailford, 54, from the Ingoe area of Northumberland.

Inquiries are ongoing into the collision and police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 1134 29/03/15.
