A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car on a road in the west of Northumberland last night.
At 11:05pm, a Ford Ka collided with a pedestrian who was walking along a country road between Matfen and Ryal.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene and the pedestrian, a 54-year-old man, was treated at the scene before being taken by the police helicopter to the RVI hospital in Newcastle. He later died as result of his injuries.
A section of the road was closed for around three hours to allow for collision investigation to take place.
Inquiries are ongoing into the collision and police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 1134 29/03/15. Police are not in a position to release any further information about the man at this time as family are being informed.
