PCC's funding helps community groups

The financial boost has come from Northumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Vera Baird QC, and her Commissioner’s Community Fund.

The 2016/17 funding has been made available to help support local organisations who run projects and initiatives which support the PCC’s key priorities.

This year, more than 68 charities, voluntary organisations, community groups and social enterprises tackling anti-social behaviour, promoting crime prevention and building community confidence, have been successful in their applications.

Ms Baird said: “We are lucky to have so many fantastic groups here in Northumbria, supporting the work of our police force in a range of beneficial ways. I want each and everyone of them to realise how much I value and appreciate the work they do to make a difference within their local communities.

“I am delighted to be awarding funding to such a range of initiatives and worthwhile projects, all of which reflect the priorities outlined in my Police and Crime Plan. These priorities were formed based on what members of the public told me they wanted the police to tackle within their area and these groups do a crucial job in helping our officers bring about positive change.

“It is only right they should be rewarded for the fantastic work they do and I hope the funding will help them do even more. Last year we saw many great success stories as a result of my funding and I hope to see such positive outcomes once again.”
