Plans for a Party in the Park event in a north Northumberland village to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday are coming together.

Wooler Parish Council has decided to host the celebration in Scott’s Park and it is hoped it will be a similar success to the one hosted four years ago for Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.

It has now been confirmed that the event will take place from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, June 12 – the same day as the giant street party on The Mall in London, which will be the culmination of a weekend of national events to celebrate the Queen’s official 90th birthday.

Activities lined up so far for Wooler’s event include a bouncy castle, fancy dress for children and adults, activities by the Cubs and Scouts, a demonstration from the boxing club, music, line-dancers and children’s games, but it is hoped that more will be added soon.

If anyone has any ideas for other activities or entertainment, or if any groups, clubs or organisations want to get involved with the day, they should contact parish councillors Alfreda Hindmarsh, Rosanna Reed, Shirley Mills or Anthony Murray.

Contact details are available online at http://www.wooler.org.uk/woolerpc/councillors

It is proposed that the afternoon will be a picnic too so the organisers are asking everyone to bring a picnic which they can eat themselves or which could be combined with other people’s picnics to result in a feast for all, in true street-party style.

A number of communities will be hosting events to mark the weekend of June 11 and 12. Let us know what you are up to – [email protected]
