‘POLITE signage’ has been erected at the entrance of an Alnwick store’s car park, warning shoppers that parking is for its customers only.
This action has been taken at Morrisons following complaints from its customers that they were unable to park in the store’s car park last week.
It coincides with Thursday’s opening of Wilkinson, which is located opposite.
Now, drivers are being warned at the entrance to Morrisons car park that it is ‘for Morrisons customers only’.
However, a row between the two stores has been played down, with a spokesman from Wilkinson saying ‘there is no big issue’.
A Morrisons spokesman told the Gazette: “Under normal circumstances we are more than happy for our car park to be used by shoppers visiting a number of shops in the town, including Morrisons.
“However, after receiving numerous complaints last week from customers unable to find room in our car park, we met with the management from Wilkinson and have both agreed to work together to tackle the issue.
“To try and ensure fairness, we have added polite signage to the car park entrance.”
A spokesman for Wilkinson said: “There is no big issue here.
“We are working with Morrisons to ensure our customers’ needs are met in the best way.
“It is quite normal for retailers trading closely to each other to define their own customer parking.”
