People in Monkhouse Terrace, near to Green Batt/King Street, had raised concerns about indiscriminate parking.

Locals said that they were often unable to park near to their homes because the spaces were occupied by town-centre workers or shoppers. They also raised safety concerns, saying that vehicles were blocking the path, forcing pedestrians – especially those with prams/pushchairs – into the road.

As a result, Northumberland County Council carried out a consultation exercise, relating to the introduction of residents’ parking permits in Monkhouse Terrace. Of the six responses, five were in favour and one was neither for nor against.

The authority says the relevant traffic regulation order amendments will be prepared and legal notices advertised.
