HEARTFELT thanks have been given to a parish councillor who stood down from his position after years of serving his community.
Tony Sandford was a well-known and active member of Rothbury Parish Council for around 15 years. He was also a member of Alnwick District Council and has worked tirelessly on behalf of his community.
Chairman of the parish council Coun Peter Dawson said: “It is extremely sad that we have to announce this but due to health reasons, he has had to officially retire.”
Coun Mark Gilson said: “Tony has spent 15 years doing good work on behalf of the parish of Rothbury.”
Mr Sandford was also an instigator in setting up Rothbury and Coquetdale Youth Project, as part of the Rothbury parish plan.
The council is to make a donation to the youth project on behalf of Mr Sandford as a retirement gift.
