Some big decisions lie ahead, a headteacher has warned, after Alnwick’s switch to a two-tier education system.
Glendale Community Middle School headteacher Michael Deane-Hall said the change has prompted numerous concerns in Wooler and surrounding areas about the future.
From next September, pupils could leave the middle school early and join the secondary school in Alnwick.
He said: “Parents are faced with some tricky choices, between an emerging two-tier system or an established three-tier in this area. There is a lot of change and a lot of parents are concerned about what it means.
“And as a school, do we do what we are doing now, but with reduced numbers, which impacts on budget, or do we become a primary school?”
