The Bailiffgate Museum has announced its upcoming programme. This follows its hugely successful Wild exhibition, which has seen numerous events at the venue, as well as at other locations in conjunction with partners such as the Northumberland National Park.

Volunteer Jane Mann said: “People have a view that museums are stuffy rather boring places but anyone who knows Bailiffgate can confirm that it is an amazing, vibrant and exciting place. We not only offer a state-of-the-art permanent collection on display but also a year-round programme of events which offer great value and interest to local people.”

The final two exhibitions will appeal to lots of people. The Rag Rugging exhibition, which runs from September 9 to October 30, celebrates a traditional craft of Northumberland making the museum gallery a riot of colour and pattern.

The final exhibition of 2016 focuses on local life on the Home Front as part of an ongoing commitment to First World War commemorations. Aptly named ‘While the Lamps Were Wut’ begins on November 1 and will feature a showing of the famous Somme film on November 13.

A new oral history project, Speak for Yourself , will be launched on October 13 with groups and individuals invited to share their stories about growing up in the district.

The Alnwick Local History Society will start again on Tuesday, September 27.
