One month of Lockdown 3 – Gazette readers have their say on national Covid rules

Lockdown 3, set out by Mr Johnson on Monday, January 4, once again called on the nation to stay at home as much as possible to protect the NHS and save lives, going out only for a number of limited reasons.

These include essential shopping, for daily exercise and to attend medical appointments.

A “route map” out of lockdown will be set out by the PM on Monday, February 22.

We asked Gazette readers to share their views on the latest national restrictions, one month on:

Jean Harvey: “People need to do what's asked of them and not ignore the rules.”

Becca Sproat: “The Covid cases are very slowly going down so the rules in place are working. Tougher rules will make it go down faster. I know people are so sick of this now but i feel like we are almost at the finish line!”

Sally Snapper: “Everyone doing their bit would be a bonus.”

Susan Embleton: “Too little too late regarding airports.”

Craig Burkey: “I think we could do we tightening restrictions for three weeks by shutting down public transport, closing shops to foot customers, and relying on home delivery and specially arranged transport for key workers and vaccine pick up/drop off.”

Elsie Goward: “Close the borders and vaccinate all the key workers.”

Carole Moyes: “Maybe closing ports and airports to everything except essential food and medicine would be a good start (only 12 months too late though).”

Yvonne Abbott: “Close travel, should have been a priority the first time.”
