Some may be young and some may be old. Thousands of people in North Tyneside are currently providing unpaid care and they are doing this work ceaselessly for love and duty and should be commended for it.

They may grin and bear it 24/7, but I am committed as a public representative to speak out for them.

This week marked Carers’ Rights Day. The point of this day is to ensure that those caring unpaid for family and friends know their rights and where they can get help and support.

It is also about raising awareness of caring – it can take people several years to recognise themselves as a carer.

This year’s ‘Caring Costs’ campaign highlighted costs carers face and the impact caring can have on people’s ability to work and the quality of their other relationships.
