Tough time of year to look after dogs
Well I think it’s probably safe to say we’re all sick of winter already. Problems with snow, ice, internet and phones haven’t made it an easy start to the year.
However, our hardworking staff and volunteers have been pushing on making sure the dogs are still getting their exercise and keeping warm.

Two of our dogs are out on trial so we are keeping everything crossed for them with another couple due to have meet and greets. Plus, of course, the never-ending requests to take in more dogs.
Captain, the saluki, is starting to show us his more playful side and just loving zoomies in our paddock whether it’s covered in snow or not. He’ll be off to our vets soon to restart his vaccinations and for a general check-over – he wasn’t even chipped, poor boy, just discarded as these poor sighthounds often are.
At least now he can have lots of love and attention and a heated kennel while we get him ready to find his perfect home.
We’re keeping our JustGiving page for the New Year’s Day dip open a little longer. Any donation is a huge help no matter how small and all goes to help our dogs. Visit https://www.justgiving.com/page/northumberland-dog-rescue-2?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL
We’ve been so fortunate in the amount of bedding, food, toys, treats and coats that have been donated to the dogs. What we really need now unfortunately is hard cash to pay for our vets bills and so we can keep our kennels warm for the dogs in these wintry conditions. We do our best to ensure all dogs are vaccinated, neutered and have had any medical issues attended to before leaving our care so as you can imagine it’s very expensive so your donation really does make a difference in a dog’s life.
Rescue Dog of the Week
One dog that we cannot believe is still here is two-year-old Jackawawa Hollie. She really is the sweetest prettiest little girl.
She is nervous of new people and new surroundings but once she knows you she’s just the cuddliest little girl. She loves toys, games and cuddles. She seems fine with other small dogs too.
We wouldn’t rehome Hollie with young children just because of her nervousness. Once she knows you and feels secure she’s just so much fun.
Hollie is very young and active and therefore we are looking for a calm home which also enjoy lots of exercise and once Hollie has had this, she will happily curl up on your lap for a snooze. These breeds live to a ripe old age and this needs to be taken into consideration before applying.
Our rehoming area is Berwick to Newcastle – email [email protected] or you can fill in an application form on our website and if you are a good match we will be in touch.
