Open day to give people the chance to have their say

Lowick Parish Council will be holding an open day on Saturday in order to get the opinions of local residents about its proposals for the village Neighbourhood Plan.

The strategy, which focuses on various community issues and priorities, is to go forward to consultation with Northumberland County Council, and next year, to a public referendum.

John Huddart, chairman of the parish council, said: “We consulted the village in 2016, asking them what they valued in the community and what they would like to see enhanced or preserved in the future.

“As a result, we have been able to draw up six objectives to cover the issues and are proposing policies that the plan will deliver, and the parish council will work towards in the coming months.

“These cover community facilities, accessibility, housing, heritage and design, the local economy and the natural environment and bio-diversity.

“We are naturally keen to get people’s views on these issues, especially on where the boundary of our village should be, and kind of development that our local plan should include.

“We are keen to be proactive and look to the overall wellbeing of the community long term.

“We are seeking to promote growth and prosperity, as well to preserve what is best and unique in our parish.”

The open day will be held between 10am and 2pm in Lowick Village Hall.

The plans so far produced will be on display, and a questionnaire has been prepared for visitors to fill in.

There will be free refreshments and a chance to talk over ideas.
